Mumbaikars seek a green city in 2008

City should go green
2007 saw India evolve further. In fact, change has been taking place at the rate of months rather than years. Fashion in Mumbai, for example, is changing all the time. What was a fad a few months ago has now become passé.

My favourite moment of 2007 was India winning the T20 World championship. In fact, I was in London, and we celebrated the win like crazy there. A lot of Indians shut down their stores, and Punjabis came on to London's streets to do bhangra. It was truly memorable. One good thing about Mumbai this year has been that it has become greener.

Next year, I want to see the city get greener and be more environmentally-conscious.

Mumbai will become more expensive
2007 was definitely a good year for the country's economy, what with the GDP being better than ever. India's economy has been rising steadily now, and this year, was the best. Hopefully, this trend of growth will continue in the New Year too.

2008 will see competition increasing across all sectors. There are an increasing number of able citizens looking for jobs, and this will further improve productivity.
Of course, Mumbai will become more expensive to live in, but I'm sure salaries will rise too.

Next year, I want to see the government take the initiative to stage awareness camps that educate Mumbaikars on public safety.

The media lost its focus in 2007
2007 saw the new local trains launched by the Indian railways and they are really cool. It would be great to have some more of them in 2008.

The media in 2007 was disappointing. I mean, what was the point of bombarding readers and viewers with the lives of Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan. They went hammer and tongs with the marriage coverage, and it got on your nerves after a point. It shows that the media is slowly losing its focus.

Next year, I want to see the media to concentrate on issues that really matter, and not on plain old hype. Hopefully 2008 will see that change take place, it’s the least Mumbai’s citizens deserve.

I look forward to a pollution-free 2008
2007 was, all in all, a great year for Mumbai. Financially, and economically, there have been a lot of developments. However, I do not see a lot of political developments, except for Modi's win.

I think his win has been one of the key moments for me in 2007.  I hope some of the benefits of his win reflect in Mumbai too.

As far as Mumbai's infrastructure is concerned, I think its going from bad to worse. Just look at the condition of our roads. It was much better five years ago. I look forward to a pollution-free 2008. Also, I am concerned about global warming and I hope we do not have frequent power cuts, like we had this year.

Nifty touching 6,000 points made my year
2007 saw our economy booming. The stock markets are soaring and it has helped me make a lot of money. I want to see more such financial brilliance from the stock markets, and the financial industry in general, in 2008. The Nifty touching 6000 points was definitely one of the key moments of the year, for me.

Mumbai, I think, has seen remarkable improvements in terms of infrastructure. I just hope the Bandra-Worli sea link gets completed in the coming year. After all, we have waited a very long time for it, and I think it will ease traffic congestion.

I also hope for a pollution-free city. I will look forward to more technological advances, but keeping in mind environmental concerns.

We must combat global warming
2007 was an average year, and not all that grand. The education system did give Mumbaikars a few troubles. The scrapping of the BMM entrances, for example, did cause mass media students a lot of heartache. Hopefully, this blunder by the education ministry will be rectified in 2008.

I was very happy when Pratibha Patil was elected as President. It reflects the fact that India is finally becoming a country that does not distinguish between sexes.

I am glad that people have started taking steps to combat global warming. Next year, I want to see more campaigns like the Batti Bandh initiative. That was a good one.

It was a great year for cricket
2007 was a peaceful year, at least when compared with 2006. I mean, after the bomb blasts last year, there was an element of fear among citizens, which has now been alleviated, to an extent. It has also shown Mumbai’s resilience.

The transport system got better too. It was a great year for cricket.

Barring the early exit in the 2007 ODI World Cup in the West Indies, which was very disappointing, the team has performed consistently throughout the year.  The T20 World championship win was the icing on the cake.

The Mumbai Chakachak campaign started by the BMC is a good initiative. It remains to be seen how effective it is.

I wish for a greener city
2007 was much better than the past few years. Thankfully, Mumbai was free of terror this year. But, the one thing that I will remember this year for is Pratibha Patil's election as President. I felt proud because she truly deserved to win. I hope that the equality between genders continues into the next year.

I also hope for a more peaceful 2008. Environmentally, I wish that there are stricter measures taken to conserve nature and wildlife: I hope for a greener Mumbai.

In 2008, I want the government to put up dustbins at equal distances, on all Mumbai roads. That way, at least, we can make an effort to reduce the amount of garbage thrown on the roadside.

More free schools for the poor
2007 wasn't that bad a year. I think there was quite a bit of infrastructural development in the city, which is good.

Also, better roads have been constructed; highways have been built near the airport; and the facilities at the airport itself are better.

Next year, I want to see Mumbai develop rapidly. We are all set to welcome the year 2008, and expect great things from it.

I hope the city's pollution problems are solved in the coming year.

In 2008, I expect to see a positive change in a social context as India is facing many social problems like child labour. Moreover, I would like to see more free schools for the poor, so that everyone can be educated.

Maintain peace in the city
2007, for me, was a pretty good year, although not as good as I expected it to be. It was a peaceful year when compared with 2006. That was a horrible year due to the bomb blasts and other tragic incidents.

This year may have been safer, but there were no infrastructural developments as such. Mumbai still lacks good roads.

Next year is going to be quite exciting, as we don't know what is in store for us. I would like to see better movies in the next year.

I hope peace is maintained, and there are no riots, bomb blasts and floods. I love theme parks, and so I expect a few good ones to open in the next year, where we all can have loads of fun.
