City calls Carol gracious

Readers vote for Carol; say she handled the wardrobe malfunction with poise and professionalism. 'I wouldn't say it was a publicity gimmick,' feels Akansha.

City calls Carol gracious

Here’s what the city has to say about model Carol Gracias, whose top slipped off baring her breasts on the runway after a 'wardrobe malfunction' on Wednesday.

Very professional of Carol

It was brave of Carol Gracias to keep walking the ramp as though nothing had happened. It would not have helped even if she had returned midway because the cameras had already captured the moment. Judging by her expression, I wouldn't say it was a publicity gimmick. Who would like to be splashed on front pages following a wardrobe malfunction? The audience abroad have different sensibility. Even Indian models, who walk the international ramp, wear transparent clothes without qualms. The Nigar Khan episode could have been publicity gimmick. Nigar, after all, isn't known for her coyness. — Akansha Shakya/Nerul

Designer partly responsible

Had she run back, the media would have had a field day. She did nothing to stop the show, instead behaved in a very professional manner. You cannot call it a publicity stunt because mistakes can happen. I think the outfit was tricky and hence the slip. The designer could be partly at fault. Creativity is one thing, designers have to be brutally creative in order to stand out, but they cannot design outfits that fall off with every step. — Ishita Thakur/Churchgate

How can velcro hold a gown?

Hats off to Carol. Not only did she carry herself well during the malfunction episode, but returned to the ramp wearing another designer’s outfit. All the hoi polloi should appreciate her courage rather than trying to discern whether the malfunction was deliberate. How did the designer think that a piece of velcro could hold a gown in place, that too one having such a narrow strap? The designer is completely at fault. — Prateek Dhruva/Bandra

Carol handled it very well

Who will expose their torso to shutterbugs at such a prestigious fashion show? Carol deserves a lot more than just credit for handling the situation so well. One needs to appreciate her guts for walking the ramp despite obvious embarrassment.

Is the media going the MMS way?

I commend the professional manner in which Carol Gracias handled the unfortunate incident at the Lakme India Fashion Week. The publicity doled out to the incident was in a bad taste. What happened to the poor girl was bad enough, but to have pictures of her on front pages of newspaper supplements titled, Carol's booboo, with captions like 'meter down' and 'the rising' speaks volumes of our social bankruptcy. Did we need the pictures? My brother remarked that there would be video recordings and MMS anyway. The maturity shown by the girl in question could only have been matched by our own juvenile discord. As upholders of social justice, I think the media need not only to speak up but also to stand up for our slip that was far worse than hers. — Shruti Tandan/Peddar Road
