Can slum children teach errant motorists to toe the line?

Idea is great and will work for sure
I feel involving slum children, flower vendors and newspaper boys to keep a check on the zebra crossing is a great idea. Besides, in the long run too, it will prove to be effective. The kids will be more than happy to do a job which will earn them respect along with money. With their knowledge of the local conditions, they will prove to be of major help to traffic police.

Slum kids need food, not employment
In our country, traffic regulations are treated as suggestions rather than a set of rules. Rewarding policemen, strict compliance with the rules and curbing the rampant corruption could help solve the issue. Slum children, who live in the shadows of abject poverty, need shelter, food and safety instead of a job that will only get them nack onto the streets.

Will help mitigate the chaotic scene
Considering the large number of slum children, vendors and unemployed youth, I think it is a good move. Along with providing them the much-required income, it will also make sure that their time is put to good use. Practically speaking, it is impossible to deploy a traffic officer in every nook and corner of the long stretch. More trained hands will only do good to the traffic scenario of the city.

Children could help instil traffic sense
In India, children from slums are treated very shabbily. With this move, they will surely find the right direction and motivation. On the flip side, getting children to guide will ensure that the motorists learn to abide by the rules, at least to save them the recurrent embarrassment. The government needs to think of more such initiatives to keep the unemployed youth engaged.

Will haughty motorists listen to kids?
The initiative will prove to be a dud. Firstly aren’t children supposed to seek education rather than impart knowledge on traffic rules? Interestingly, when the motorists don’t obey the traffic policemen, how can the department expect them to listen to these youngsters? Instead of discipline, we shouldn’t be surprised if we get to see brawls and chaos on the roads.
