Buckle-up

A recent study claims that Princess Diana would have survived her car crash if she had been wearing a seat-belt. Speak Up asks Mumbaikars whether celebrities should lead by example

Big B should support the campaign
This campaign is really good, and it will help people understand the importance of wearing seat-belts. So far, people were ignoring seat-belts. I think celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan should take up this issue to encourage people to follow rules and regulations, because everybody looks up to them. The way he has encouraged people into taking polio drops; the same can work for this cause as well. After that, if citizens are still unable to understand the virtues of road safety, then nobody can convince them further.

The police must buckle-up as well
It’s high time we understood the value of wearing seat-belts. I hope, at least, that after DNA’s campaign, people will change their bad habit of not wearing seat-belts. By doing this, we can reduce the number of accidents, like we have decreased the number of drink driving cases. But I would like the police to use seat-belts as well because that too would encourage people to follow their lead. Celebrities can make a huge difference to the cause because they have travelled the world and they know the importance of traffic laws.

Seat-belts are very comfortable
People are aware of the virtues of using seat-belts, and they are using it. Of course, compulsion is also a reason behind people’s buckling up because anything that is compulsory is more important to us. The police is becoming very strict these days, which is a good sign. Celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan  can make an appeal to people, because to the common man they are icons. Some people say that seat-belts are uncomfortable, but after a while we get used to it. I always wear a seat-belt and now I feel uncomfortable without it.
