'Addicted? Not me’

Mobiles have become very cheap and more people are using them. But I don’t think India is addicted to phones says Gautami Rane.

'Addicted? Not me’

Camera, MP3 make it essential
Mostly, teenagers fall prey to cellphone addiction. Phones are a necessity today as they have facilities like camera, MMS, GPRS,  games, radio and MP3.

Apart from this, cellphones have become cheaper and easily available. I myself spend around 3 to 4 hours a day using my cellphone. Although I am not addicted, I will definitely miss my cell if it gets lost.

Everyone loves a flashy phone
Mobiles have become very cheap and more people are using them. But I don’t think India is addicted to phones. If you see more people on their phones today, it’s because it is a status symbol, and people want to be seen with the
latest phone.

College kids have also become tech savvy and there is a mobile with new technology every other day. That is why mobile phones are so popular among today’s youth.

He takes his phone to the loo
I can see people getting addicted to their phones. My brother is a case in point. He carries his cell phone even to the bathroom. He refuses to keep it aside even for a moment. It’s an unhealthy trend.

Talking on the cellphone for so long can damage your ears and I have heard, it also leads to brain cancer. I use my mobile sparingly. I haven’t given my number to everybody. I keep my cell switched off at night.

If someone has anything urgent work, they can reach me on my landline number.

It doesn’t hurt at all
I do not know about people but I certainly am addicted to my phone. I talk for as long as six hours every day and my phone has to be charged twice a day. I cannot imagine life without my cellphone.

It’s perfectly normal because it doesn’t seem to be hurting me in any way. I am yet to hear of anyone who has had to see a doctor because of his cellphone. My cell had to be charged at least twice a day.

Cellphones are a god-send
I don’t think anybody can get addicted to cellphones. The internet is more addictive and harmful compared to mobiles. Cellphones with GPRS and MMS services can be used wrongly if they fall into the wrong hands. But apart from that, cellphones are a god-send. Researches showing cellphones are harmful are all theoretical, none of them can be proven.

Obsession? Yes. Addiction? No
With the increase of work pressure inter-personal relationships mobile phones are a boon. So much of business happens on the phone, when you are accessible at all times and not only at restricted office times. On an average, I use the mobile for two to three hours a day. Mobiles are no longer a luxury, but have become a necessity.

Definitely, there may be some people who are addicted, like people have an obsession for many other things, but I would not term the use of mobile phones as an addiction.
