Creativity is my pathway to divinity: Meera Mahadevia

I do not believe in rites and rituals. To me, spirituality is about connecting to your inner core, that inner voice from where all solutions arise effortlessly. My spiritual guide is simply my inner voice. To me, God is not some blue light but a divine intelligence that is interwoven in my everyday reality. Creativity is my pathway to divinity.

When I am designing, I am not ‘me’. I know for sure there is a higher power working through me, a divine energy pouring, which I decode in my creations. Spirituality is an ongoing moment to moment process, like a flowing river. Losing a very dear friend at the age of 16 made me realise how transient everything was and that there was a higher power governing the ebb and flow of all life in this universe. I have learnt that God resides within every living being. All we have to do is tune ourselves to listen to this voice.

Our inner voice is something we carry within us, a haven in all our troubled times. And, even in our most trying moments, it always guides us, expanding our capacity for tolerance and escorting us into new realms of understanding. But, every time we ignore this voice, it shrinks a little and slowly fades away. Our voice tells us our life’s purpose, guides us in every situation and helps us to make all our choices.

Earlier, for me, every situation posed the ‘fight’ or ‘flight’ option, but now equipped with this new knowing, life is an easy flow, making me feel alive and free and responsible for all my actions. I believe spirituality is seamless and so is my creativity.

My inspiration comes from women like ‘Meerabai’ and the Tibetan bodhisatva, ‘Tara’, whose spirituality and passion were so free-flowing and unrestrained that their energies automatically created a powerful magnetic aura around them.
