Tablets maybe one answer for those on the move, but you can’t really type a lot on one and they won’t run most of your programs that are Windows based.

Ultrabooks started trickling in towards the tail-end of 2011 and by now, we have a pretty good selection to choose from. All ultrabooks are spec’d more or less the same, so expect to see one of Intel’s Core i5 CPUs, 2GB of RAM and SSDs starting from 128GB. HP Folio 13
HP Folio 13 boasts of an excellent design and finish and is incredibly lightweight at just 1.4kg. It packs  in a 13.3-inch screen, full sized backlit keyboard while still being incredibly slim at 18mm. The fit and finish of everything is impeccable and it feels like a premium notebook. There’s brushed aluminium everywhere while the base has a rubber coating for better grip. The backlit keys are incredibly comfortable and it also has Dolby Advanced audio for movies and music. With USB 3.0 and HDMI rounding off the connectivity, it’s a good option at Rs66,000.

Samsung’s attempt at an Ultrabook is nothing short of breathtaking. The entire chassis is constructed out of Duralumin, which is used in military aircraft. It’s really light at 1.3kg and measures just 16.3mm in thickness. The edge-to-edge screen gives it is classy look and the backlit keyboard ensures you don’t stop working when it gets dark. Prices start at Rs79,000.

Toshiba Portege Z830
This little number from Toshiba is one of the slimmest and lightest Ultrabooks on the market and yet, you compromise on features. Weighing in at just 1.16kg, it’s the lightest of the lot and yet, features HDMI, LAN and an SD card reader. The chiclet keyboard is very comfortable and is backlit as well. The chassis is derived from magnesium alloy which makes it super light and durable at the same time. Despite its anorexic size, it manages decent battery life as well. The Z830 will set you back a good Rs97,000.

Dell XPS 13
Dell has always been known for their superior build quality and they do not disappoint with the XPS 13. Built from materials like machined aluminium and carbon fibre, it looks and feels premium. You have to forfeit some connectivity options, but they make up for that with an excellent backlit keyboard and a Gorilla Glass screen. The XPS 13 starts at a price of Rs79,900 and upwards.
