Riding more on less

Rising fuel prices have invoked a desire for better mileage. A plethora of mileage boosters are available in the market to increase the performance of your car. But here are some simple tips to cash in on day to day basis to increase your fuel efficiency as advised by Surendra Vishwakaram of Maruti Suzuki Service Centre, Peddar Road.

Check it out:
Regular tuning of your car goes a long way in maximizing power of your engine and saving costs incurred due to fuel wastage. Timely check up of air cleaner, a clean silencer, carbon-free sparking plug serves you more miles. Thus, regular visits to service center will be a key aspect in maintaining your car to optimize your fuel efficiency.

Find your sweet speed:
Speed uniformity while driving will directly influence your car's mileage. Some cars get better mileage at specific speeds, usually 50 mph. Your car's “sweet speed” is the minimum speed at which the car is running in its highest gear. Maintaining the average speed will also benefit the environment by minimizing the emission of carbon dioxide.

Avoid unnecessary disc-breaking to maintain the speed uniformity. Excess of speed or acceleration should be refrained as it results in fuel wastage. Proper use of clutch plate and switching off your car on signals will keep your car running for extra miles.

Switch over:
Switching over to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) whichis a clean, green and economic alternative to petrol is advisable. Increase in the number of CNG vehicles, especially in the transportation sector has been witnessed over the years.

As a thumb rule, the less you drive, the more you save up on fuel. So plan your daily commute well doing multiple tasks at one go and see your savings go up!
