Google Friend Connect (GFC) is integrating Twitter, hot on the heels of Yahoo integrating Facebook Connect.

You will now be able to log in to any of over nine million sites that supports GFC with your Twitter account.

Once authenticated with your Twitter id, your Twitter avatar and name are displayed on the associated GFC site.

You can tweet your new site membership to followers at the time you join, or at any other time via the site members’ gadget.

You can also tweet about interesting discussions happening on the joined site without leaving it.

The good news for site owners who use GFC is you don’t have to do anything to enable the Twitter integration: It just works.

On Wednesday, Yahoo Inc announced that it would let users of its email, photo-sharing and other online products link their content and activities directly into Facebook, the world’s No 1 Internet social network.

Yahoo’s support of the Facebook Connect service, which it expects to begin in the first half of 2010, represents an important move in Yahoo’s efforts to tap the popularity of social networking.
