Google launches iPhone photo-sharing app Photovine

In the latest bid for social network dominance, search giant Google has unveiled a new photo sharing application.

Subsidiary company Slide have released an innovative photo sharing service called Photovine for the iPhones, reports the Daily Mail.

Previously only available for invite only customers, the general public can now get their hands on the service Google are hoping will revolutionise the way people post their pictures online.

But despite the fanfare, critics are already comparing the service to a similar product called Piictu, which also uses themes to share photos between users.

Google has denied claims of copying the product, adding that Photovine has been development for a full year before Piictu was released.

The Google service works by allowing users to tag a photo with a written theme such as “warm and fuzzy”.

Other users can then add their own interpretations of the theme thus growing into a collage of linked images - chance the “vine” in the app's title.

As each 'vine' grows in size, the whole mosaic of images can be searched by most recent post or most popular vine on the site.

Photos can be viewed one by one or as a grid - with the option of adding comments or clicking “like” to boost it’s rating.
