Enid Blyton becomes available on Nintendo DS

Enid Blyton's Faraway Tree series for children will now be available in a digital version on the Nintendo DS games console.

The much-loved children's author had penned these novels in the 1930s and 1940s but they have stood the test of time.

And now kids will be able to read them on the touch screen of a Nintendo DS. The pages will appear in two screens like all paperbacks. Making the reading experience richer will be sound effects, collect bonus features and games.

The launch of the Blyton series is part of a lager deal between EA Games and book publishers. Under the agreement the software company will be publishing a series of children's books on the FLIPS format, which can be read on Nintendo's handheld DS console. Each FLIP containing about six to eight books is priced at 24.99pounds.

A reader just has to plug in the FLIP chip and the book is ready.

"At Egmont we are passionate about bringing stories to life for children, so the development of new platforms for reading are incredibly exciting for us. We are proud to be at the heart of this innovation and thrilled to be a part of this first collection bringing authors such as Enid Blyton to the digital world, and encouraging more children to take up reading for pleasure rather than seeing it purely as part of their homework," the Telegraph quoted Cally Poplak, director at Egmont Press, as saying.
