The failure of today's GSLV-F06 carrying GSAT-5P is the third unsuccessful mission of India's Geo-Stationary Launch Vehicle in its seven flights.
The second operational flight GSLV-F02 powered by Russian cryogenic engine failed in July 2006 while the developmental flight GSLV-D3 using maiden indigenous cryogenic stage deviated after takeoff in April.
All the GSLV rockets, including today's failed flight, used the Russian cryogenic engines barring the GSLV-D3.
