India on his mind

Jewellery designer Pieter Erasmus talks to DNA about working with stalwarts of the international fashion fraternity and the Indian market

India on his mind

Pieter Erasmus' jewellery is being stocked at Harrods, Erickson Beamon and Kirt Holmes amongst others. “Working for these huge brands and especially working on the one-off items for the catwalk shows for these designers was bliss,” enthuses the designer whose collections can now also be found in a Colaba store.

And as someone who divides his time between London and Delhi, how much of his works is influenced by India? “I love the detailed Indian handwork, crochet and embroidery but it's the African sensibility that I dwell upon to make jewellery.  Having said that, I must admit that I love the way that an Indian woman marries western clothes so beautifully with Indian style clothes. That is why I feel that the Indian market is so ready for my jewellery line,” replies Pieter.

With regards to his inspirations, the South African born designer says that he is not a slave to trends, but is quick to add that he is no island.
