Sensex up over 220 points as funds go buying
MUMBAI: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex opened higher by over 220 points on Monday, extending last week's gains on sustained buying by funds.

The Bombay Stock Exchange barometer, which had gained 44.61 points in the previous session, rose further by 220.66 points to 9,910.73 in the first five minutes of trading.

The wide-based National Stock Exchange's Nifty also rose by 59.75 points to 2,981.10, as most of the index participants opened higher.

Marketmen said buying activity was sparked off by reports of a firming trend in the global markets.

Besides, hopes of a fresh booster dose for the realty sector expected later today added to the positivism on the bourses.

They said Hong Kong share prices opened 4.1 per cent higher today, as Asian markets rallied on the back of a positive performance by Wall Street on Friday.
