Mahajan has been outstanding for us

The second edition of the Indian Cricket League has been a stuttering campaign for the Delhi Giants. We began with a comfortable win over Mumbai Champs and also beat the Ahmedabad Rockets by 9 wickets in our third game but still there is something missing from our performance.

Our highest total so far in the competition has been just 137 runs in our last game against Hyderabad Heroes and that too after getting a decent start in that game. But our bowlers rose to the occasion and that is why we are still in with a chance to make it to the semi-finals. We did bat well against the Champs and the Rockets but then we had low scores to chase.

Dhruv Mahajan deserves a lot of praise for the way he batted and then came back to take two crucial wickets of Stuart Binny and Chris Harris. But it was medium pacer Taduri Sudhindra, who gave us a chance to fight back when he sent the top three batsman back to the pavilion with just 15 runs on the board.

However, I am not really happy with the way we played against some of the best teams in the competition and if any team has to harbour hopes of winning a tournament as competitive as this then all the batsmen have to contribute.

We take on Kolkata Tigers in the last match of our league campaign in what is a virtual quarterfinal. Six teams have a mathematical chance of advancing to the last four but realistically if we win this game then we will be through. The win in the last match has given us a lot of confidence and are looking at Sunday’s match as a start of our knock-out campaign. If we win, we continue in the tournament and if we lose, we will be out.
