University of Pune to start ‘Masters in Translation’ course

The two-year course will begin from July of this academic year, said director of Sanskrit Pragat Adhyanan Centre Ujjwala Panse-Jha.

University of Pune to start ‘Masters in Translation’ course

With the rising demand for translation of information in several languages worldwide, University of Pune from this academic year has decided to start Masters in Translation: Theory and Application course.

The two-year course will begin from July of this academic year, said director of Sanskrit Pragat Adhyanan Centre Ujjwala Panse-Jha. She said, “Pune university is the first university in the country to start a postgraduate course in translation. There are several certificate courses, though no such two-year rigorous degree course in other universities.”

Any graduate person with an interest in translation can take up this course, and homemakers can easily make it a source of earning after completion, said Panse-Jha. She said, “We have 30 seats for the course, and it will be conducted in the department. The students will be selected on the basis of interviews, as this year we have not introduced the system of entrance examination.”  The admission process will begin in July.
