Twin town's 9 lakh workers to join Bharat Bandh

The worker unions of Pimpri-Chinchwad industrial areas have decided to extend full support to the two-day nationwide bandh. Nearly 9 lakh workers will participate in the bandh, said Kamgar Sanghatak Sayunkta Kriti Samiti president Kailas Kadam.

The key worker unions, including Bharatiya Kamgar Sena, Bharatiya Majdur Sangh, All-India Trade Union Congress, Shramik Ekta Mahasangh, have decided to take part in the bandh.

Kadam said that under the name of privatisation and globalisation, the owners of industries are trying to suppress the workers’ lobby for the past 20 years.

State secretary of All-India Trade Union Congress, Madhav Roham, said, “The workers who will be participating in the two-day nationwide bandh will gather at Lokmangal Karyalaya at 11 am near Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar statue at Pimpri Chowk and stage a rasta roko on February 20. The next day, a rally has been organised from 11 am reaching up to the district collector.”

The union leaders have put forth various demands, including provision for deploying the contract labourers permanently, plan for generating employment, etc.
