A 26-year-old software professional has been arrested by Nigdi police station for allegedly molesting a standard VI student in a cyber cafe. The girl had gone there for her science project on Saturday afternoon.

The incident came to light when the 12-year-old girl, who lives in Nigdi, lodged a complaint against Kamarali Ameen (26), a resident of Telco society in Nigdi Pradhikaran. He was arrested and later released on bail. He has been charged under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code comprising molestation.

NS Bhosale-Patil, inspector in-charge of Nigdi police station, said, “The victim is std VI student studying in Pimpri-Chinchwad area. She wanted some colour pictures related to her science project for which purpose she visited Enterspace cyber cafe near Ganganagar bus stop. The incident took place on Saturday around 12.30 pm on the first floor of the cafe. The victim was surfing the Internet for her project independently and just adjacent to her cabin, Ameen was seated.”

According to the complaint, after about 15 minutes, Ameen started singing songs loudly and tried to distract the victim. “After she gave no response, he approached the girl claiming a videosite was operating on the victim’s computer without her knowledge. She got scared and asked him to check. On pretext of checking, he manhandled her and touched her private parts. The victim raised an alarm, freed herself and came to the ground floor,” added Bhosale-Patil.

The girl narrated the incident to the owner who alerted the police. “After his arrest, we came to know that he was an engineer and currently worked in a city-based IT company as a software techie,” Bhosale-Patil said.

On Sunday, he was produced before the court of judicial magistrate (first class) and remanded to magisterial custody. He later got bail.
