Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC's) focus: quality edu for SSC students

The focus of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in the fiscal year 2013-14 will be on improving the score of SSC students studying in municipal schools and provide better quality education at PCMC-run schools. A budgetary provision has been made to start e-learning programme with the help of industries in the twin town.

To guide the SSC students, PCMC will start special lecture series this year. The PCMC has also decided to conduct extra coaching classes in summer and Diwali vacations. It will also start extra periods in the morning during the school session.

To improve the mathematical abilities and language skills of the students, the PCMC has decided to conduct practice sessions and competitions of spelling, tables, handwriting, essay writing and drawing for students.

The PCMC has made a provision of Rs50 lakh for e-learning initiatives at its schools in its budget for 2013-14. It will also invite the industries in the twin town to conduct the e-learning programme in municipal schools under its corporate social responsibility initiatives.

The project is the brainchild of municipal commissioner Dr Shrikar Pardeshi who was felicitated by chief minister Prithviraj Chavan for his work at Nanded Corporation recently. Pardeshi will implement the Nanded pattern in PCMC as well.

Pardeshi said computers will be provided to all the PCMC-run schools under the e-learning programme and an internal central studio will be set up at the education board headquarters to monitor the programme. The studio will provide education to students of all the municipal schools.

Pardeshi said, “Mostly, the municipal schools students belong to slums or economically weaker sections of society. Such students hardly get acquainted with the computers. The e-learning programme will help spread computer literacy among them.
