Pimpri-Chinchwad has enough water to last a year

The water crisis in the twin-township of Pimpri-Chinchwad is almost over as the catchment area of Pavana dam was filled up to 80% on Monday. The water would be enough to meet a year’s requirement of the residents.

Since Pavana dam is the only source of water for Pimpri-Chinchwad, the delay in rains in June and July had the citizens worrying, but the area received the maximum rainfall in the beginning of August.

Earlier, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) had decided to announce water cuts, if rains continued to play truant.

The municipal corporation had even stopped water supply to construction sites.

The chief coordinator of municipal corporation’s disaster management cell, Omprakash Behwal, said, “The city has recorded 2,669 mm of rainfall this season, and 35 mm of rainfall was recorded in the catchment area on Sunday.”
