The old office of Pimpri-Chinchwad New Town Development Authority (PCNTDA) situated at Nigdi Chowk will soon be the new destination for twin town’s separate tehsil office.

A state government’s high-powered committee gave its approval to set up a separate tehsil office for Pimpri-Chinchwad considering its rapid development.

Now the citizens of Pimpri-Chinchwad will get their 7/12 extracts (property ownership document), to make changes in property ownership, change in heirs and pay taxes etc. from this separate office.

Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar in a recent meeting with the district collector, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) office-bearers and PCNTDA officials had given his nod for setting up of a separate tehsil office.

It was a long-pending demand of political parties and citizens to set up a separate tehsil office for the twin town, which presently falls under the Haveli tehsil office.

A PCNTDA official spokesperson said that the building could be used for tehsil office only after a month as the authority needs to shift its office to the new ‘Green building’ situated at Akurdi. Officials said that it will be convenient for citizens as it was located on prime spot and Nigdi bus stop was close to it.

According to the 2011 census report, the population of Pimpri-Chinchwad was recorded to be 17,29,320, including the male population of 9,45,918 and female population of 7,83,375. There was a 72% rise of population recorded in Pimpri-Chinchwad as compared to the 2001 census report. According to the 2001 census report, the population of Pimpri-Chinchwad was 10,06,417. The population growth witnessed in the new census revealed that there was rapid urbanisation in Pimpri-Chinchwad city. From 2,49,364 in 1981, the population of twin town touched 5,17,083 in 1991.
