PCMC to start PG courses in civic body-run hospital

The standing committee of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), on Tuesday, approved the proposal to start a post-graduate medical science education institute at its Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH).

PG courses like master of science (MS) and doctor of medicine (MD) will be started in association with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. YCMH deputy superintendent Dr Shyamrao Gaikwad said, “PCMC commissioner had set ‘Health Vision 2030’ for the twin town and these PG courses will be part of the program. PCMC has proposed Rs10 crore expenditure for the project.”

Gaikwad added that PCMC
had sent the proposal to start a PG institute to the state medical university. Accordingly, the medical officials visited YCMH last year on September 28, but due to the municipal election, the civic administration could not take any follow up of the proposal.

“The expert medical team also visited YCMH and have suggested that PG courses in genecology, general medicine, orthopaedics, paediatrics etc can be started at YCMH,” he said. “Pardeshi had tabled the proposal on an urgent basis in the standing committee and we have approved it,” said standing committee chairman Jagdish Shetty.

Gaikwad added that the teaching staff and admission process will be carried on according to the prescribed norms of the government.
