PCMC to replicate 24x7 water scheme

After the success of the pilot project to provide 24x7 water to Yamunanagar, Nigdi, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to replicate the round-the-clock water supply scheme in the twin town.

“It will take another four to five years for the project to be executed,” said Praveen Ladkat, executive engineer, PCMC’s water supply department.

There are 15,000 illegal water connections and nearly one lakh illegal constructions in PCMC.

Civic officials added that the success of the ongoing demolition drive initiated by the civic body and the Pimpri Chinchwad New Town Development Authority (PCNTDA) will help in water distribution to the twin town.

Due to the unauthorised constructions, the load on water pipeline had increased.

Another hurdle that the civic body faces in improving the water supply to the twin town is the installation of water-meters. The PCMC achieved 80% success in installing the meters in city wherein it has installed 1.5 lakh water meters in the city.

Ladkat said, “PCMC has planned to conduct a separate drive to regularise the unauthorised connections in the city in the next three months.”
