PCMC completes 90% work in phase 1

Though Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) was busy in preparation of the second phase of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), PCMC has completed nearly 80% work of JNNURM projects in Phase 1.

PCMC got approval from the government for two years extension till 2014 to complete Phase 1 of the projects.

Nilkant Poman, head of PCMC JNNURM cell told DNA on Saturday, “PCMC had launched key JNNURM projects worth Rs 2,562 crore in 2006, including BRTS, water pipeline, slum rehabilitation and scheme for economically weaker section (EWS) and others. Of these, PCMC has completed 100% work of the sewerage treatment plant for the city.”

Poman added, “The civic body completed almost 90% project work under JNNURM with only the two routes of bus rapid transit system (BRTS) work and water pipeline work being delayed. The civic administration has requested for an extension from the ministry for two of the BRTS routes, which are facing land acquisition hurdles. Accordingly, PCMC has got extension for two years till 2014 as against the earlier deadline of March 31, 2012.”
