Over 3000 new vehicles will hit roads this Dussehra

More than 3,000 new private vehicles will be hitting the city streets on the occasion of Dussehra on Wednesday. Over the last two days, 2,700 two-wheelers and 500 four-wheelers were registered with the Pune regional transport office (RTO) fetching the state government Rs7.35 crore revenue.

However, due to inflation, the number of four-wheelers registered was 200 less than that of last year’s Dussehra festival.

In a city like Pune there is a huge demand for vehicles. According to the RTO officials, the vehicle population of the city will reach the 33.5 lakh mark on Dussehra with newly registered vehicles hitting the roads on Wednesday.

Sanjay Dhaigude, deputy regional transport officer said, “A total of 3,200 new private vehicles were registered with the Pune RTO over two days before Dussehra. Of these, 2,700 are two-wheelers and 500 four-wheelers. There are four imported four-wheelers. Last year, 700 new four-wheelers were registered.”

“Pune RTO has managed to generate revenue of Rs7.35 crore over two days from registration of these new vehicles. From this year, there is increase in vehicle tax, therefore it reflects in the revenue generation,” Dhaigude said.
