MNS protests delay in Chapekar Smarak

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers on Thursday protested in a unique way against the delay in work of the Chapekar Smarak at Chinchwad.

Dressed as Chapekar brothers, the MNS workers went to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and submitted a memorandum to additional municipal commissioner Prakash Kadam.

The historical Krantivir Damodar Chapekar Smarak at Chinchwadgaon was shifted to facilitate the work of the Chapekar flyover. The PCMC was to rebuilt the memorial after the work was over but the memorial has not been rebuilt yet. The statue of the freedom fighters has been kept at Chapekar wada in Chinchwadgaon.

Chinchwadgaon takes pride in its historic association with Chapekar brothers and their memorial at Chapekar chowk. Local residents want the PCMC to install the statue as early as possible.

Officials from the ward B office informed that some minor work of the flyover is yet to be completed. The PCMC has constructed the Chapekar flyover to curb bottleneck at the chowk where seven roads intersect each other. These roads include the Pimpri-Chinchwad link road, road to Chinchwad station, road to SKF company, road to Thergaon and two internal roads of Chinchwadgaon. Besides, there is a vegetable market, a municipal school, PCMC Zone B office, a post office, several commercial complexes and residential buildings at the chowk.
