Mentally challenged girl raped by father-son duo in Beed

As the nation protests against the Delhi gang-rape incident in the capital, another gruesome incident of rape has been reported from Beed district. Shockingly, the victim is a mentally challenged girl, who was raped by a father-son duo living in her neighborhood.
The rape was an act of revenge for a petty dispute between the families of the victim and the perpetrators.

According to the Beed police officials, the incident took place on Sunday where the father-son duo raped the 22-year-old victim on two separate occasions, taking advantage of her illness. The incident came to light when the victim’s step-mother lodged a complaint against Chintamani Jadhav (58) and his son Ganesh (24) at Makur police.

Asif Sayyed, assistant police inspector from Makur police station, who is investigating the case, said, “The victim and the arrested duo are neighbours as well as distant relatives. The victim’s family had left her alone at her residence and gone to attend a wedding. When they returned home, they found her crying,” he said.

After learning the truth, victim’s step-mother immediately approached the police. “We had to take help of a counsellor to take the girl’s statement. While recording her statement, she revealed that on December 16, she was raped by the father, and on Sunday by the son. Ganesh was arrested the same day, and his father was arrested on Monday from Beed bus stand.

On Monday, the father-son duo were produced in the court of judicial magistrate (first class) and have been remanded to police custody for a week.
