The Nigdi police station has arrested a 19-year-old youth for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl at Otta Scheme in Nigdi on Thursday evening. The arrested youth has been identified as Kiran Bapu Dhale (19) of Sangramnagar, Otta Scheme, Nigdi. The victim’s parents are construction workers. Taking advantage of the long hours spent by the victim alone at home while her parents were working, Kiran had allegedly raped her six times in the past.

According to the police, the incident came to light when the victim’s mother saw Kiran forcing himself upon her daughter at their house on Thursday evening. A police officer said, “Kiran used to threaten the victim of dire consequences if she told anybody about the incident. As a result, the victim did not inform anyone about the crime.” The Nigdi police have arrested Kiran under relevant sections of IPC, 1860.

Techie robbed of laptop, gold chains
A 36-year-old software engineer was robbed by three unidentified persons of goods valued at Rs30,000 on the Mumbai-Bangalore highway on Thursday night. The incident took place when Anupam Datta of West Bengal and staying in Atulnagar, Warje was on his way home after finishing his work at Hinjewadi IT Park. Datta has lodged a police complaint.

According to the police, Datta was waylaid by three unidentified persons on bike in front of Rangila Dhaba located on Pune-Bangalore highway when he was riding his motorcycle back home.

Assistant police inspector SB Javale of Chatuhshrungi police station who is investigating case said, “We suspect that the robbers might have chased him for some distance before targeting him at an isolated spot. They thrashed him and robbed his laptop and two gold rings totally valued at Rs30,000 and fled. Datta was so terrified that he did not note down the bike’s registration number.”

Chain-snatchers strike at two places
Chain snatching incidents were reported in Nigdi and Bibvewadi area on Thursday and culprits fled with chains valued at Rs76,000. In the first incident, Madhuri Sunil Gaikwad (30) lodged a complaint against two motorcycle-borne unidentified persons stating that they snatched her gold chain worth Rs36,000 near Camp Education School in Nigdi area.

In the second incident, two unidentified persons on motorcycle snatched a gold chain valued at Rs40,000 at Bibvewadi on Thursday afternoon. Victim Vaishali Vilas Ambekar (59) has lodged a complaint with Bibvewadi police station.
