Housing societies in twin township to be trained on water usage

At a time when the state is reeling under the worst drought, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to take the matter in its hands. The civic body will launch a special campaign to spread awareness about the judicious use of water among the residents of various housing societies and colonies in the twin township.

The PCMC has 50 paintings that it will use to spread the message of water conservation.
The water supply department officials will also give power-point presentations on how the water comes to the tap from the dam. The first programme of the series will be held at Sector 26, Nigdi-Pradhikaran.

PCMC’s executive engineer (water supply department), Praveen Ladkat, told DNA, “To avoid shortage in the future, the public needs to be made aware of the judicious use of water. Though our city is fortunate enough to have abundant water supply, we would like people to conserve water.”

Ladkat added that Pimpri-Chinchwad is growing very fast and tackling the need of water will be a challenge in the future. Hence it is important to wisely use water.

The PCMC has also decided to prepare a database of volunteers who will spread the awareness among citizens, said Ladkat. The civic body would also organise public tours to the water purification plant at Ravet as part of the campaign. Extending the scope of the programme, the PCMC also has plans to spread awareness about water usage among the housemaids as they are the key users of the water among the housing societies.
