Basic facilities to illegal structures? PCMC can't decide

The matter was deferred on Tuesday due to absence of PCMC commissioner Dr Shrikar Pardeshi. Earlier too, the PCMC adjourned the issue on similar grounds.

Once again, the proposal to disconnect basic facilities to illegal constructions was deferred in Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) general body meeting. This is the eighth time that the subject has been deferred by the PCMC.

The civic administration tabled the proposal of disconnecting basic civic amenities to unauthorised constructions on September 21 last year. In the proposal, the civic administration made a mention to not provide water supply, drainage, road, electricity, etc., to unauthorised constructions.

Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar had also instructed the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)-ruled PCMC to approve the subject. The matter was deferred on Tuesday due to absence of PCMC commissioner Dr Shrikar Pardeshi. Earlier too, the PCMC adjourned the issue on similar grounds.

There was tremendous curiosity among the citizens and developer fraternity as to what decision would be taken by the PCMC on this controversial issue.

Meanwhile, the municipal commissioner had himself circulated a letter to stop providing basic amenities to illegal structures. However, it received strong opposition from senior NCP leaders in twin town as they raised the question about the rights of a commissioner in doing so.

On Wednesday, without holding any kind of discussion, PCMC mayor Mohini Lande declared that the subject was adjourned till the next meeting.
