Ajit's sudden move shocks Pimpri-Chinchwad NCP leaders

Considered as the backbone of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Ajit Pawar’s resignation came as a shock to most of the party leaders in Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). All leaders claimed that Pawar was completely innocent of the charges levelled against him.

The leaders of NCP, which enjoys absolute power in PCMC with 83 corporators and 14 NCP-supported independent corporators, were stunned after the news of Pawar’s resignation was aired.
Several NCP corporators expressed their sadness over Pawar’s resignation.

NCP’s city unit president Yogesh Behl told DNA, “The allegations made against Pawar are baseless; such things have happened in the past also. The Pawar family has immensely contributed to politics and the NCP is the only party which has been successful in a very short span of time. Hence, the opposition parties have played such tricks to dampen the spirit of the party and its leaders.”

Behl added, “Pawar has clarified that he is ready to face any kind of inquiry. Since he has been projected as the future chief minister, he did not want to leave any loopholes. We support his decision, but we are also upset because of his decision.”

While asking whether Pawar’s resignation will affect the development work in PCMC, Behl said, “Pawar has shown the way and the development will not be hampered.” NCP corporators want chief minister to verify allegations before accepting Pawar’s resignation.
