60 minutes: Three killed while crossing railway tracks

The Lonavla railway tracks on Friday saw three deaths within a span of 60 minutes on Friday morning. Two men and a minor boy were run over by moving trains at different spots on the route from Pimpri to Dehu Road area.

Two mishaps took place near Pimpri and the third near Dehu Road. The deceased include a minor and a man  aged 80 years.Government Railway Police identified two of the deceased as Bhagwat Kamble (14), resident of Pimpri and Nivrutti Yadav (80), resident of Kiwale of Dehu Road area.

The identity of the third person was not known till late on Friday.

Senior inspector Mahendra Rokade, incharge of the Pune unit of Government Railway Police said, “The first accident took place at 8.45 am on Friday in which Nivrutti Yadav was crushed under a moving train near Dehu Road. The second accident took place at 9 am when 14-year-old Bhagwat Kamble came under a moving train while crossing the railway tracks near Ashoknagar in Pimpri. The third took place at 9.45 am when an unidentified person was crushed under a train. We are trying to trace the relatives of that person.”

Rokade added, “Most of the accidents on railway tracks are due to the illegal crossing  of railway tracks by pedestrians. People try a shortcut instead of using the footover bridge. They cannot judge the speed of the moving train and some of them get hit by the train.”
