A good argument

I agree with your editorial ‘Eating healthy’ (DNA, September 12). Young bodies and minds have to be cultivated in the right direction, especially regarding food habits.

A good argument

A good argument
The comments in ‘A secular argument’ by Ranjona Banerji (DNA.Saturday, September 12) that ‘the connections between power, money and religion are old and likely to endure’ are worth taking note of. For India, the question is whether we want to separate religion and state or allow a few ‘soft’ nods to religious customs here and there. A democratic republic without secularism is unthinkable.

Musharraf’s admission
Pervez Musharraf has admitted that the aid provided by the US to Pakistan for the fight against terrorism during his tenure was misused to strengthen the defences against India (‘US funds were diverted to strengthen defence against India’, DNA.Sunday, September 13). Earlier, Asif Ali Zardari had accepted that terrorists are created, nurtured and supported by the establishment. The Pakistani establishment has denied any involvement in the 26/11 attacks. The government of India has provided enough proof that the attacks were carried out by outfits in Pakistan. The Pakistan government is still not cooperating with India.

Securing the borders
The report ‘India is beefing up China border defences’ (DNA, September 14), reminds us the of the news that came 50 years ago about a China map with false boundaries which irked India and the subsequent 1962 war with China which we lost. Now we should treat the matter seriously and concentrate on  strengthening our borders.

Balanced diet
I agree with your editorial ‘Eating healthy’ (DNA, September 12). Young bodies and minds have to be cultivated in the right direction, especially regarding food habits. Doctors advise wholesome nutrition to kids and adolescents. The importance of a balanced diet has to be inculcated in the minds of children from a very young age. But in this age of cutthroat competition, time is an unfortunate casualty and this has resulted in proliferation of junk food.
