Now, a mini-MBA for students

An international school in Juhu is offering a mini-MBA to its students from class IX onwards.

RIMS International School and Junior College in Juhu is the only school in the city to offer Business Enterprise, a newly-introduced subject that will cover all the topics taught in a conventional MBA programme.

Introduced by the Cambridge international Education (CIE) board, the subject will equip students with managerial skills required to start  a business. Students taking up this subject along with business studies and economics are learning the same material taught in the best b-schools in the world, claims Kishore Pillai, school principal.

Introduced at the school in February as a pilot project, Business Enterprise will be a full-fledged subject starting this academic year. “The project work is very popular. Our students gain a lot of practical knowledge which prepares them for life outside school. It touches on all areas needed to run a business and students enjoy coming up with solutions to challenges,” Pillai said.

In February, students set up their own chocolate enterprise and the sweets were sold in the school on Valentine’s Day. They made a profit of Rs15, 000 with the venture.

“Students opting for this subject get four years experience of management by the time they graduate from school. They would be the natural choice for any top b-school. It also fosters a spirit of entrepreneurship. Instead of just joining an organisation at a managerial level, through this subject, we are teaching students to start their own projects,” added Pillai.
