Being Facebooked is amazing: Deepali Adlakha

"Fun loving, a geek, an adrenaline junkie — three words that describe me," states Deepali Adlakha's profile at the website of Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. The final year student of Computer Science has bagged a job from the Facebook with an annual package of Rs1.44 crore, one of the highest across IITs. Being Facebooked is amazing: Deepali Adlakha

How does it feel to get the plum offer from world's largest social networking site?
This is just amazing and very-very exciting. I had been doing lot of coding in past few months. My interview went well. I was hoping to get an offer from the FB. Now I will work with them as software developer at San Francisco from next summer.

What about the salary?
My salary would be Rs65 lakh per annum and there is bonus of Rs20 lakh and rest would be in the form of stock.

You already worked in the US with Microsoft research this summer.
I worked there for 10 weeks and my experience was fantastic. The most interesting part is that they allow people to work from the comfort of home which takes most of the burden off from the shoulders. Indians are regarded as very intelligent and hardworking.

Most of the engineering grads go for MBAs instead of going for the core sector. Are you also planning to study management later on?
No. I don't have any such plans at least as of now.

How has been the life in the IIT Bombay campus which like other IITs has skewed gender ratio?
There are just five girls in my batch. The situation is same in other departments also. However, the campus life for girls is extremely good and fun even though 90% of the students are male mainly because we get equal opportunities and facilities like boys.

Why are there are still fewer women in IITs?
I think all those girls who have aptitude for engineering must be allowed to pursue the career in the engineering. We don't need to do something extra to increase the number of girls in IITs.
