Pune influentials: Education shows the way ahead, says Vishwajit Kadam

Education is the soul of this lovely city and this has been true since pre-independence. Pune university has always been a pioneer in research and so highly regarded all over the country and abroad. This has given Pune considerable clout on the educational front. We also had institutes like the College of Engineering, Fergusson College, Deccan College and SP College. Private educational institutes began making an impact in the early 1980s with Bharati Vidyapeeth, MIT and Symbiosis doing extremely well in the field of education. Today, educational institutes are seen to be committed to grooming future visionaries and leaders.

Only education empowers society to grow in the real sense by overcoming poverty, ignorance and lack of self-esteem. We have been taking every possible measure to bring the youth under one roof to provide modern education to counter the challenges ahead. The main achievements are bringing information technology into education, providing good infrastructure, introducing good teaching practices, physical fitness programmes, agricultural initiatives in schools, sanitation and cleanliness. Also, today education is reaching out to all sections of society through good government schemes and non-governmental organisations. Even the Pune Municipal Corporation’s schools are run professionally extending the benefits of education to students from poor and deprived classes.
