Is dependence on technology killing our mental powers?

Invention of machines and gadgets has made life easy for man, but is posing a threat to his existence. Starting from a simple pen to a supercomputer, from a TV to an aeroplane — life runs on machines. DNA finds out whether we have become slave to machines.

Inventions help reduce the time needed to complete tasks
Yes, it is true that inventions make our lives comfortable. It helps us to work efficiently and reduces the time needed to complete various tasks. This eventually saves a lot of time, which can be spent on constructive activities. One can also then find time to spend with family, which is a difficult task in this age. People have not become dependent on inventions. It is actually the present need of human beings, which helps a person to live a better life.

I have forgotten the last time I hand-washed my clothes
I do not wash my clothes at all. In fact, washing machines and gadgets are made for our comfort, but unfortunately we  end up being dependent on them. It is not good to rely completely on gadgets as we tend to use less of our potential and become slightly lazy. But on the other hand, these gadgets are created to help reduce our efforts and dramatically save the time in doing chores. In fact, I have forgotten the last time I hand-washed my clothes as I usually use the washing machine.

It shouldn’t happen that machines become the master of man
Yes, inventions are made for us, but not just for our comfort. It actually helps reduce our efforts. Actually, man is becoming very dependent on these inventions. As the saying goes, man is the master of machines. But someday it shouldn’t happen that the machine becomes the master of man or else this world will be dominated by technology. We should not become slave to machines. We have become so lazy that if there is a calculator in front of us, we use it for simple calculations. Our brain’s true potential is not being used to the fullest and we will eventually start losing out on our capabilities.
— Sharon Manickam, bank manager

Inventions are more of an addiction than a necessity
Though the modern day inventions have made our lives comfortable and relatively easy, they have also made us dependent and lazy. We tend to overuse computers, cellphones and thus our brains have got into the ‘parasitic living’ mode. Our lives now revolve around the visual world, like the Internet, due to which we hardly want to get up from the couch. Thus, inventions are more of an addiction than a necessity and we are growing overly dependent on them. It is important that we get back to the basics or else we will become incapacitated and would expect the machines to do everything for us.

Inventions are important, but we should not let them kill our abilities
Inventions not only make our lives easier but also make a difference to our aspirations. It challenges the human race to go beyond the unimaginable and strive for the impossible. But this endeavour of ours may lead the mankind to grow lazier and not work. Inventions are important, but we should not let the machines kill our abilities and eventually make us extinct. Thus, we need to use our abilities.
