A home away from home

Actress Evelyn Sharma talks about Bandra's bubbling energy, which keeps her going

A home away from home

I came to Mumbai from a small town in Frankfurt, Germany. It was a cosy place where familial ties were strong and people lived together as a single community. When I came to Mumbai, I found that Bandra, to a certain extent, reminded me of home; so I decided that this was the place to be.

Initially, I had no idea about where to stay. I checked out close to 25 flats in search for the perfect place that would provide privacy but at the same time be well connected to other suburbs and South Mumbai as well. After house hunting for the good part of a month, I found this gem of a house in Bandra.

Bandra is always bubbling with activity—it is extremely vibrant and diverse in terms of the people who stay here. I have wonderful neighbours who ask after each other. So even though you have your privacy, you are not left feeling alone.

And how can one forget the sea? I love Bandstand and Carter's. When I feel low, I like to take a walk along the promenade, breathe in the air and forget about my problems. I could sit and stare at the sea for hours and never get tired of it!

The food you get at Carter Road—from yummy shawarma to delectable desserts—is a rollercoaster ride for your taste buds. The 'No Car Day', which is hosted every year reflects the energy and the community spirit of the residents. The Mt. Mary Church brings together people from all walks of life in its annual fair and it is heart-warming to see people go that extra mile for each other!

From fitness to food to peaceful living, Bandra provides several options for people who are on the lookout for either one or all three of the desirables. The quaint lanes and charming houses, the fancy eateries and the roadside clothes stalls all come together beautifully in this place.

There is a rightful reason for why Bandra is called the 'Queen of the Suburbs' and one can only feel that way when one has stayed long enough in this place. These are some of the reasons I can encapsulate in just so many words as to why I love living in Bandra.
