Working group on amendments for GST formed

The empowered group of state finance ministers on Thursday formed a working group to prepare a draft on necessary constitutional amendments for the implementation of the goods & services tax (GST).

“The group will work on necessary constitutional amendments for GST implementation. It will also work on draft legislation for central GST, common legislation of central and state GST, and draft for rules and procedures for administration of both,” its chairman Asim Dasgupta said. The working group will present the draft in four weeks, he said.

Implementation of GST will require constitutional amendment as states will be given the right to levy tax on services. NW18
