Tata Steel to achieve 10 million tonnes capacity in 2011: HM Nerurkar

Tata Steel's managing director HM Nerurkar today said 2011 will be challenging for the company as they will be completing the ongoing expansion programme to achieve 10 million tonnes capacity.

"Following the expansion, the official capacity will be 9.7 million tonnes, but we are confident to excel the target and achieve 10 million tonnes," Nerurkar said.

However, the commissioning and operation following the expansion will be a challenging task before the employees, he said.

Hailing the prevailing economic growth rate of the country, Nerurkar said the country's impressive economic growth has been highlighted in the international media as the country has achieved growth rate of 9 to 10% in the last two quarters.

The Tata Steel managing director expressed hope that the prevailing growth will continue in future.

The prevailing growth will help the company to achieve its expansion programme as well as generate employment opportunity, he said.

Despite the recent ups and downs in raw material prices, the company continued to maintain its profitability and growth owing to the efficient approach of the company's collieries and mines, he said.

Nerurkar cautioned the employees to focus more on safety, environment, quality service and technology to survive the international competition.
