Suzuki may fix 280,000 Swift, other models

In a filing with Japan's transport ministry on Friday, the nation's fourth-biggest carmaker said that over time strong vibrations could cause screws to loosen, possibly causing mirrors to dislodge.

Suzuki Motor said it will recall a total of 90,617 units of its Swift and three other car models in Japan to fix a possible door mirror defect, with about 192,000 cars sold abroad also possibly subject to repairs.                                           

In a filing with Japan's transport ministry on Friday, the nation's fourth-biggest carmaker said that over time strong vibrations could cause screws to loosen, possibly causing mirrors to dislodge.     
 
The recall, which starts on Saturday, will also affect 19,426 vehicles sold in Japan that Suzuki supplies to Nissan Motor Co.       
The filing said that 77 complaints, but no accidents, had been reported in Japan due to the defect.                                           
 
Suzuki shares fell 1.8% to 1,967 yen on Friday, compared with a 1.1% fall in Tokyo's transport equipment subindex.
