The special economic zone (SEZ) in Madhya Pradesh has gained new heights with exports growing by over 150% in 2010-11 as against the last fiscal.

Also, the total turnover of the zone has touched Rs1911 crore this  FY as against Rs 726 cr in previous year, recording a growth of 160%, Rathore said.

Though there was one SEZ also set up at Jabalpur which is not functional at this moment, but MP's Indore SEZ attracted investors and entrepeuners due to its better single window facilities, fiscal incenties and non-bureautic atmosphere, he claimed.

The employment and investment in the zone has touched a digit of 11500 employees and Rs 2500 cr respectively in one year alone FY 2010-11, he said.

At present, there are 32 operational units in the zone and 10 new units are under construction, quoting the report the DC said.

In 2010-11, thirteen new units have come up representing all sectors of pharmaceutical, engineering, agro, textiles and information Technology, he said.

In view of progress and grwoth the SEZ made, Rathore underlined that there was an urgent requirement to prepare master plan of the zone with suitable provision in non-processing areas for business and social infrastructure as envisaged in SEZ scheme, in order to develop the zone as self-sufficient and strong industrial city.

Quality infrastructure and complemented by attractive fiscal packages both at the centre and the state level inputs would further enhance the SEZ's schemes if given on demand basis, he further stressed.

Indore SEZ is the only operational SEZ in MP and is spread over in area of 1,113 hectares of land. So far, 153 hectares land has been notified as processing areas in the zone, including 222 hectares land notified in last quarter of the current FY for upcoming entrepreneurs in the zone.
