The second India Pride Award, instituted by the Dainik Bhaskar Group, saw an esteemed recognition of a segment that has certainly emerged as an underdog of the Indian economy over several decades-the public sector undertakings (PSUs).

In the second season of the award function, held in New Delhi on Monday, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee presented awards to PSU stalwarts. The awards were broadly divided into three categories, namely central awards, state awards and special awards. There were two types of awards, gold and silver.

Commending the Dainik Bhaskar Group for recognising the efforts of the PSUs, Mukherjee said, “Let me begin by complimenting the Dainik Bhaskar Group for having instituted this award last year as a tribute to the contributions made by the PSUs for building our country. I congratulate the award winning organisations, their chief executives and working forces.”

The central award in the life time achievement category was awarded to State Bank of India chairman O P Bhatt. He stressed on financial inclusion as key to growth on the occasion.

The gold award for India’s image enhancement and creating a global brand went to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd and Coal India Ltd bagged the gold and silver awards, respectively in the corporate social responsibility segment. In the transport category, the gold award went to the Shipping Corporation of India Ltd, which owns and operates the country’s one third of tonnage. The silver award in the category went to the IRCON International Ltd. In oil and gas, BPCL bagged the gold award, while Oil India Ltd got the silver award. In banking, SBI bagged the gold award, while Bank of Baroda got the silver award.

In the state award, the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation Ltd was felicitated with two awards. It got silver award for infrastructure development and gold award for corporate social responsibility.
IOCL and BHEL bagged special awards for best service brand in PSUs and Business Bhaskar Growth leader, respectively.
