Phillips Carbon Black Ltd is eyeing acquisition of Evonik Industries AG of Germany, Sanjiv Goenka, vice chairman of the RPG Group company, said.
“It is an opportunity we can’t let go off,” Goenka said when asked if he is eyeing the German carbon black maker with annual sales of around €1 billion, which was recently put on the block by a government-controlled trust. He refused to disclose further details.
On the domestic front, Phillips Carbon will be firming up two new greenfield projects by March: a carbon black unit and a carbo-chemicals plant.
For the quarter ended December, the company reported an 11% drop in profit to Rs30 crore even as net sales were up 24.5% at Rs432 crore.
