Nifty closes at 5,516.75, declines by 33 points

The NSE CNX Nifty which opened on a firm note and held on to its gain till the mid-session attracted selling pressure later in the day to close at 5,516.75, down 33 points over yesterday.

The broad-based 50-share index moved between 5,604.95 and 5,507.20 before concluding the day at 5,516.75, a loss of 33.60 points or 0.61%.

The market commenced trading on a firm note and crossed 5,600-mark after three weeks but profit-booking after mid-session erased all the initial gains.

Top five losers from the Nifty were HDFC (2.93%), Hindalco (2.50%), Axis bank (2.43%), Jaipra Asso (2.42%) and IDFC (2.35%).

While, top five gainers were Reliance Communication (3.78%), REL Cap (2.61%), L&T (2.43 pct), Sesa Goa (2.21%) and Rel Power (1.80%).

Total turnover in cash segment dropped to Rs 9,830.90 crore from Rs 10,003.96 crore yesterday. A total of 4,949.94 lakh shares changed hands in 51,88,212 trades. The market capitalisation stood at Rs 65,20,987 crore.
