MIC Electronics chief under police scanner

MIC Electronics chief under police scanner

MV Ramana Rao, managing director of MIC Electronics, is the latest corporate head in Andhra Pradesh to come under police scanner.

The state’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) is investigating his alleged role in getting the call data record (CDR) of top officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), including VV Lakshminarayana, the joint director of the CBI in Hyderabad.

Lakshminarayana has been probing several high profile cases including the disproportionate assets case of Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

His CDR had come out recently courtesy a group of politicians and businessmen.

The call list was allegedly obtained by the accused in some of the cases in order to know the contacts of the CBI JD.

However, the list was also released to the media by the leaders of Jagan-led YSR Congress, accusing a group of media personnel and an IT employee of conspiring to kill Jagan in Chanchalguda jail, where he has been lodged since his arrest on May 27 in the disproportionate assets case.

Aggrieved at the way the sensitive call list was put in the public domain, jeopardising the witnesses in various cases being handled by the CBI, the CBI joint director had filed a complaint with the police. Based on this, the CID is probing the way the list was obtained by the accused.

During the process of the investigation, the CID had found that the MD of MIC Electronics Ramana Rao had used his contacts in the telecom department in Nagpur to obtain the call list of the JD and other CBI officials and passed it on to the accused.

According to the CID, one Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, an accused in a case that is being probed by the CBI, had approached Ramana Rao, asking him to get the CDR. Subsequently, Rao got in touch with a member of the Telecom Enforcement Resource and Monitoring wing of the Department of Telecommunication in Nagpur in order to retrieve the call list. The list thus obtained was copied on a pen drive and passed on to Raju.

Rao’s role came to light during the arguments on a bail application filed by Raju in the AP high court. While opposing the bail application of Raju, the CID counsel had explained to the court the modus operandi employed by the accused and the role played by Rao.

The call list leak case is still being probed by the CID and it is still not known if Rao would be called for further questioning by the investigators.
