Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad to forecast economic scenario

What will be the scenario in various sectors when the economic recession recedes is a question that evokes widespread interest? And the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) will try to find the answer as it will make an attempt to evaluate the 'new normal' in the wake the recession. The initiative will be taken up in an event called 'IIMA finance conclave 2010.'

The conclave will take place on the Januray 8-9 and is jointly organised by the Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) at IIMA, Beta - The Finance Club and Leverage - The Private Equity and Venture Capital Club of IIMA.

Student of IIMA and media coordinator of the event, Leroy D'mello said "The basic scenarios in the markets are going to change after what happened to the economy recently. So the conclave will try to find out the economic scenario that is likely after the recession." He said, "The event will also try to find answers to certain questions like, 'what are the forces that will shape it' and 'what are the strategies for survival in the new scenario'."

The central theme of the conclave is 'Challenging the New Normal'. The event in which students and corporate houses will participate will hold various panel discussions and workshops on the two days.

The first day of the event will carry the sub-theme of "A New World Order", and will address questions pertaining to a new regime of regulations, consolidation activities and inclusive growth that will shape a new economic order post the crisis. The second day of the conclave will try to find out which sectors would offer the best growth.

D'mello said, "The conclave will try to answer these questions by establishing a platform for discussion over expert opinions from different sectors of industry."

An event called "Empresario-The B-Plan showcase" will offer opportunities to nine  teams of budding entrepreneurs, shortlisted from a pool of entries to interact with the venture capitalists.

Senior associate at CIIE Aditi Gupta of said, "The entrepreneurs would not only get a golden chance to get seed funding from the potential investors, but also the opportunity to be incubated at the CIIE. This event will be held behind closed doors."
