HAL will produce flaperons for Boeing

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and Boeing on Thursday announced the signing of an agreement for the production of aircraft components.

As per the agreement, HAL will produce flaperons for the latter’s 777 model at its facility in Bangalore.

“Flaperons are instrumental in controlling the airplane’s maneuverability in flight. They work both as an aileron to control roll and as a flap to control lift,” a press statement from both companies said on Thursday.

The companies refused to discuss financial details of the deal.

Sources close to the development said the programme will be initiated in 2011 and will continue till 2019.

“HAL will produce 300 ship sets (600 individual flaperons) till the given period of the contract,” a source told DNA. “Manufacturing will be undertaken by the composite manufacturing division of HAL, which will have a separate facility for the production of these flaperons,” the source added.

HAL has a component-making partnership with Boeing since 1991.
