GVK wins Shivpuri to Dewas road contract

GVK Power and Infrastructure Ltd has bagged its biggest road project yet from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
GVK Transportation, a wholly owned arm, would develop the 332-km stretch including four-laning of the Shivpuri-Dewas section of National Highway 3 (NH3) in Madhya Pradesh.

The toll project would be executed on design, build, finance, operate and transfer or DBFOT basis.

The project entails widening and strengthening of a two-lane highway to a four-lane highway. The concession offered is 30 years including a construction period of 2.5 years.

GV Krishna Reddy, chairman, GVK said the project will develop one of India’s busiest highways.

The NH3 is one of India’s major national arteries (commonly referred to as Mumbai-Agra highway) and a vital trade corridor connecting west and central to northern India.

GVK has in the past implemented India’s first six-lane toll road (90 km from Jaipur to Kishangarh on NH8, which is part of NHAI’s Golden Quadrilateral).

According to the company, this project was constructed six months ahead of schedule and is currently in its seventh year of operations. In addition, GVK is developing two toll road projects currently in the construction phase. Currently, GVK has a portfolio of four toll road projects totalling more than 600 km.
