Gold extends gains for third day, up Rs10 to Rs20,500/10 gm

Gold continued its upward streak for the third straight session and rose further in the bullion market today by Rs10 to Rs20,500 per 10 grams, largely on sustained buying by local parties for the ongoing marriage season, while silver held steady at Rs45,850 per kg.

Traders said silver lacked necessary buying support at existing higher level and traded around previous levels.

On the domestic front, gold of 99.9 and 99.5% purity added another Rs10 each to Rs20,500 and Rs20,380 per 10 grams, respectively. They gained Rs 150 in the previous two trading sessions. Sovereign remained stable at Rs16,850 per piece of eight grams.

Silver ready held steady at Rs45,850 per kg, while silver weekly-based delivery gained Rs30 to Rs45,685 per kg. Silver coins also moved up by Rs200 to Rs50,000 for buying and Rs50,100 for selling of 100 pieces.
